I believe the country’s in real danger and I was shocked and sickened as I watched the most recent debate last night.
The baseness of it all.
The magnitude of this one candidates complete and total unfitness for office and the disgrace our country has to bare watching it unfold is repugnant to me. We are all tarnished allowing this,
the election of our highest and most prestigious job in the land, to be THIS close to going to such a low life.
I’m furious and heartbroken at the same time.
As Dan Rather recently reminded us: Rome was once a proud republic that devolved into a place of barbaric spectacle epitomized by the savagery at the Colosseum and, he warns us in all honesty, if we’re not vigilant America is very likely to fall into that same downward spiral.
Lincoln said our destruction would not come from external forces but from within.
And this, this situation we’re in now, is very possibly the beginning of the end if we don’t wise up and ask more of ourselves, our media and our political parties.
Watching those candidates on television last night - policy upstaged by the cult of personality and “likeablity” and just BS lies/ mud slinging debasement- was shameful and so far beneath the office for which they are running I have no words.
I’m sickened with how much more that debate felt like the Jerry Springer show than a Presidential event.
I was horrified as Hillary - trying to stick to policy and plans for an America - had to deal with Donald Trump - brushing over the recently uncovered audio tape where he brags about his star power allowing him to sexually assault women as simply “locker room talk”.
I don’t know what locker room you’re in Donald but that’s not how MEN talk. That’s how assholes talk. That’s how rapists talk. My son deserves better than to have to look up to man who doesn’t even understand the difference.
And using the boys will be boys justification argument just after you’ve held a press conference with, and then paraded out multiple women your opponent’s HUSBAND may or may not have engaged in sexual relationships with 2 plus decades ago is the absolute height of hipocracy.
And then I sat there with my mouth on the floor as Republican nominee for President of the United States of America promised to get a special prosecutor to try and jail his opponent once he became president.
Now that might play well to the “lock her up” contingency of the base but, for those of us with half a brain, hearing that is utterly chilling.
Jailing your opponent is something a Dictator does not the President of a free nation.
A dictator circumvents the rule of law.
A dictator shuts down the free press.
A dictator hires only yes men and uses power to get more power until he is untouchable.
It’s Putin. It’s Kim Jon Ill. It’s Hitler, Stalin, an African warlord…not the American president.
That kind of behavior has no place in a free country.
Stop treating these candidates as if they’re equal. They aren’t even both worthy of my focused analysis.
In a time where the world is falling apart Donald Trump can’t even agree with his own running mate on international policy a month before the vote.
And it doesn’t seem to matter.
Well it matters to me.
It matters if the man running for president has no working knowledge of how the system he wants to run works. And he clearly doesn’t.
He seems to think that, if she’d wanted to or been capable enough, a junior senator from New York can fix all the country’s problems including the deeply lobbied and entrenched tax code that as a senator she has no access to unless the bill originates in the House of Representatives which, it didn’t.
He seems to think you can just “wipe out” terrorists if you want to.
And get other countries to do things simply cause you tell them to.
Or that things will be fine, better even, great if we back out of NATO or rip up international peace accords or dismiss the laws around around the world regarding Torture and human rights.
This is not normal. This is dangerous.
He’s not running for head of the student council at a posh prep school his dad bought a wing at. There isn’t a principal or an adult that will come along and fix all the shit this entitled little brat doesn’t understand. He’s running for leader of the free world. Commander and chief of the world’s biggest military and owner of the world’s largest nuclear arsinal.
I haven’t been recording these pieces because what is there left to say?
I don’t care if you think Hillary Clinton is Washington capital chronisim at it’s best. She’s not going to tear apart the fabric of America.
She’s not questioning the validity of our elections or ripping apart the constitution or sewing the seeds of rebellion and violence.
How did we get to a place where a racist, sexist, ignorant bigot supported by no-one of note in his own party who doesn’t even understand the complexity of the job he’s running for can stand on the same stage as a career politician who understands every single policy point and inner workings of that same job and be asked to look at them as equals.
I won’t do it. I can’t.
I’m repulsed by Donald Trump.
I’m repulsed by his supporters.
I’m repulsed by his ignorance and lack of shame and entitled assumption that he can HAVE this job even if he can’t do it.
I’m repulsed by our insatiable appetite for the lowest of the low. That the media has given air time to white nationalists and people calling for religious tests and Chachi from fucking Happy Days saying if we don’t like hearing about women’s pussys being grabbed against they’re will we should just grow up.
I’m repulsed that the GOP whose need to win above the good of the country has supported and legitimized this small minded, quick tempered, sexual predator. A man who complains about everything in a country he’s taken so much advantage of. A man who inherited a fortune, evades taxes, runs businesses and people into the ground and yet still has the audacity to act like he’s some kind of genius.
Where’s the moral compass? Where’s the line that won’t be crossed?
This election is pathetic.
I can’t talk about liberal vs. conservative values.
This is an election for the very soul of America.
It’s hope vs. hate.
Democracy vs. Despotism.
Good (even moderately good) vs. evil.
And if you’re not voting for Hillary Clinton when Trump is the other option then I don’t care what you think. Your opinions are not as good as my facts. And I’m sure as hell not going to get into a debate with you because it’s a lesson in futility.
I can’t compare these cadindates because they’re imcomparable.
I’ve completely reached my level of patience with this nonsense.
